Blue sky and crispy air. Sometimes the mountains w Blue sky and crispy air. Sometimes the mountains welcome you with open arms. This is moments that most of the tourist brochures are showing. We try I different way with our ‘marketing’. We show the real thing and also make the real thing with our guests. Therefore we also want our guests to be aware of what how the real situation out there can be. We don’t want to sell our tours to everyone. We want our guests to find the tour that they think they want to make. Sometimes that tour is at another company.
Imagine that you book a crispy hiking week and you get a wet snowstorm… Then nobody is happy.

This picture is from a tour a couple of years ago to Skierfe in Sarek National Park.

During the last hiking trip in to Sarek NP we got During the last hiking trip in to Sarek NP we got a wonderful night on the top of Nammatj. The night itself was cold but the views in the morning was great. Usually we spot elks down in the valley but this time our scouting didn’t pay off.

I released a video from this trip at our YouTube channel and that video contains a meeting with the winter and some snow. It was more experience/adventure this year than comfortable camping trip. That’s maybe why outdoor life is so interesting. Out there we are totally exposed to nature and the elements like wind, rain (or snow) and so on. There is no shortcut to make. Sometimes you just have to face the reality of nature.

Northern light season is here! During my last hiki Northern light season is here! During my last hiking trip in to Sarek National Park, we got this northern light show one of the nights. As usual, it starts out very slow and calm. Then suddenly it takes off and really goes bananas.

During this time of the year, before the snow, the ground absorbs all light and makes the surroundings very dark. That’s the best period for northern lights.

How should you make to see the northern lights?
If you stay in a warm hotel you will not see much. The hotel is too comfortably and the toilets are inside. In a tent or a simple cabin, you have to go out every time you need a toilet. Time outside is what’s important. Time outside during the whole night. It’s also good to sleep under the clear sky without tents/cabins. Then you will see the sky every time when you open your eyes!

Of course, you need clear sky, need to be up in the north like Jokkmokk, come away from light pollution (check maps for this), and there exist telephone apps for northern lights forecast. Which northern light app do you prefer?

When I’m searching for good pictures of Annie, m When I’m searching for good pictures of Annie, most of them are from the canoe. Probably that’s one of few times when she is not moving around all the time. Anyway, she is a great outdoor dog who are really‘streetwise’ or outdoor wise.

I see lots of discussions in social media about how to get the dog used with outdoor life. The answer is simple. Bring the dog with you. Always from day 1! The puppy will be tired, exhausted and sleep well. Sometimes you have to carry the dog or shorter the trip but this makes the puppy calm and easy to work with.

Maybe we should make a video about this subject? What do you think?
