The beginning of this winter gave us really good ices, thanks to low temperatures and no snow. The nightmare is the opposite. Thin ice and lots of snow early in the winter. Then the weight from the snow will push the ice in to the water which results in corroded ice and that makes the lakes dangerous during the rest of the winter. But this year gave us almost perfect weather conditions for thick ice. Today my sister, Jenny and her two mix huskies followed us (Stina and me) on a skating trip around the lake Skabram.
During the trip we also checked the thickness of the ice because our plan was to start running our dog teams with the quads on the ice instead of the frozen roads. The roads are now days very sharp for the paws for the dogs. The ice was in a very good condition and we made the tour in quite high speed.
Back at home we made some hot chocolate and tea. It’s important to restore the water- and energy balance. Some candy also went down with the hot drinks… / Matti
